Welcome to Stronechrubie's last e newsletter for 2011

Restaurant/Accommodation/Things of interest
• Slow cooked Lamb Shanks are on the menu now, oven roasted all day then served with a delicious rich red wine jus. Soup is also on our winter menu to warm the bones after a day out. We always have our log fire on and it’s toasty so come early and enjoy a drink in front of the fire.

• All our main menu items are gluten free as always as are most of our entrée items and we can cater for all special dietary needs (with notice!). We pride ourselves on our good quality ingredients cooked to perfection.

• Our chalets are in the process of being painted due to hairline cracks from the earthquakes, just two chalets to go now then it will be finished.

• We are now catering functions that are too large for Stronechrubie’s restaurant down the road at Topp Lodge in Staveley. We can cater for up to 80 people at their premise. So please contact us if there is something coming up that we can cater for.

• We are getting a 42 inch TV for the Rugby World Cup, it will be in the bar area so it doesn’t disturb diners…but you can sneak out anytime for score updates! Sean and I both love rugby (Sean recently went to Ruatoria on a Southern Spikers Golden Oldies rugby trip) and didn’t want to miss the games so now you don’t have to either.

• Our youngest daughter Luca, has just celebrated her 1st birthday, and we have our oldest Bronte off to school in September, it is six years we have been here at Stronechrubie this August- with no plans to move!

• The restaurant is closed from the 24th August until the 5th September, we are tying in a family break with my sisters wedding in Sydney. Our accommodation will remain open and there will be staff around to help throughout thus period.

Gift Vouchers
• Gift vouchers are the perfect gift for all occasions and are available all year round, any denomination can be purchased or DBB packages, great gifts for weddings, thank you’s or just any occasion. We can get them out to you within 3 days of ordering.

Local Updates
• The Staveley Ice Skating rink is due to open in the next two weeks, the curling has already begun. Great fun to give a go, it is hidden at the bottom of Mt Somers at the start of Sharplin falls walkway. It is amazing going there in the evening amongst the trees, over the footbridge and then it appears. There is a bonfire going so bring your marshmallows to toast on the fire. Skate hire is from the Staveley store. See the photo below.

• Mt Somers Store has sold to a lovely Ashburton couple, it is still going strong and has started selling the amazing ‘Staveley sausage rolls’ made locally of course.
Mt Somers Tavern has also sold, the new owners take over 1st August.

• Mt Hutt is open and looking great. They are getting a really good base now with these colder temperatures & with a southerly on its way this weekend lets hope it brings the snow with it.

Give us a call any time on (03) 303 9814 or email schrubie@xtra.co.nz.
We’d love to hear from you.
